Our story started in the early 1980s when a group of families wanted to bring a unique scouting experience to our growing community. Founded by the late Sugar Land City Councilman Clyde Jacks, Troop 1631 officially formed to serve the youth of the First Colony and Sugar Land area. Since our very first meetings, our troop has proudly operated as a highly diverse, non-denominational organization where all young people are welcome to learn outdoor skills and leadership.
Decades of High Adventure
Over the years, Troop 1631 earned a strong reputation as Sugar Land's premier "High Adventure Troop." Our scouts do not just camp locally—they challenge themselves on major national treks. Over the decades, our crews have traveled to the premier Boy Scouts of America high adventure bases across the country, including:
Backpacking through the mountains of Philmont Scout Ranch
Canoeing the remote waterways of the Northern Tier
Sailing and scuba diving at the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base
Whether navigating a high adventure trek or participating in our monthly campouts during the school year, our scouts build true resilience and lifelong teamwork skills.
A Legacy of Leadership
Today, Troop 1631 is proudly chartered by the Optimist Club of Sugar Land. We continue our traditions every Monday night at 7:00 PM, meeting at Fort Settlement Middle School. One of our most remarkable achievements is our incredible legacy of advancement. To date, more than 150 Eagle Scouts have called Troop 1631 home. Our alumni have taken the lessons of the Scout Oath and Law out into the world, moving on to become impactful leaders in business, faith organizations, and the local community.
We are proud of our rich history in Sugar Land, and we look forward to training the leaders of tomorrow for many years to come!
